NEW YORK (AP) - A tireless advocate. An inspiration. A prince.
Friends, congregants and admirers offered effusive praise for Cardinal John O'Connor after learning that the nation's most influential Roman Catholic leader had died Wednesday after a battle with brain cancer.
At St. Patrick's Cathedral, flowers and candles were left on the step as people stopped to shed tears and pray. At a makeshift shrine, a note said, "Cardinal, I thank God for your life and love."
